Creepy Skulls Slouch Hat

April 18, 2014 (Good Friday):

I have been working on a unique slouch crochet hat this week and I just finished it this morning.    I had seen this pattern on ravelry.com a few weeks ago and I decided to purchase the pattern the other day.

Boy, am I glad I did!   This was a really fun pattern to make!     It is called, Creepy Skulls Slouch Hat and it is by Spider Mambo on ravelry.com.

There are some minor inconsistencies in the pattern but nothing really major and the pattern is pretty easy to follow.

Happy Easter, everyone!      Feliz Pascoa a todos!

Rolled Brim Hat

August 14, 2013: The Hat!!    My Rolled Brim Hat!

Hi everyone,

I am enjoying a nice hat pattern which I found on the internet recently called the Rolled Brim Hat. I found this at the Thrifty Fun website and I just love the look and fit of this hat.

For the first two hats I made, the colors are worsted weight black and light pink yarn.  My first hat (and yes, that is my crochet hook hanging from the partially-finished brim)   LOL

My second roll brim hat! Colors are worsted weight black and light pink yarn:

This black hat is simply a reversal of the colors. With my first hat, I used a very light pink color and some black yarn for the band.
I decided to add another row of reverse single crochet stitches to the brim for the last round, on the black and pink hats. I gives it a nice finished look:

I rummaged around my stash and I came across a big ball of very VERY fuzzy and rather stiff yarn. I have no idea what brand it is or where I got it from; it is one if those mystery balls of yarn in my stash acquired years ago. It made a great-looking hat! I still have some left but I'm not sure if I have enough for another hat.

I re-wound this fuzzy yarn into a pull skein on my yarn winder and with a size F hook I was able to make this one. The band is a little bit of black worsted weight yarn.

TADA! I love this hat pattern!

My work with gauges before starting on this pattern. I wanted to achieve 14 dc stitches = 4 inches or 10 centimeters.

I used some worsted weight yarn and 3 crochet hooks for this.
-- The bottom swatch was made with a size I / 5.50 mm hook and was too big (14 dc=4.5 in).

-- For the middle swatch, I used a size G / 4.0mm hook and it was too small (14 dc=3.5 in).

-- For the top swatch, I used a size H / 5.0mm hook and it was just right! (14 dc=4 in).

I also found a nice sort of "tweed" looking colored yarn which I think will work well for a hat.

Here I have the brim rolled up in the front for a different look.

I started on a purple one with a gold contrasting color. Normally I would not mix two different fibers together, but for this I think it would be okay. The purple is some 4/2 cotton yarn from a huge cone I bought off ebay. I am using 2 strands of this held together.

The gold is from Caron Victorian Christmas colors a few years ago; only one strand of this.

Both of these have gold filament running through the yarns.
Thought I would try out this purple yarn and see what I could do with it. It's a limp yarn compared to worsted weight acrylic.

I also made another hat earlier this year back in January 2013 and I have this on my Pinterest board at: Crochet Hats, Tams, Berets, Caps, Headwear, Ya'll!

Here is that picture of the the slouch beanie I made. It is the Urban Jungle Crocheted Slouchy Beanie by Vickie Howell at: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/urban-jungle-crocheted-slouchy-beanie

I am new to making crochet hats and I find that I really like it! It is a great way to use up smaller leftover yarn! :)

Update: Friday, August 16, 2013:

I am frogging (you know...rip it, rip it!), the too-large pink hat and I am re-crocheting it in the small size on the pattern.  My head measures exactly 23 inches (58.42 cm) and the ladies large size hat in the pattern is too big; it feels like it is going to fall off).

Rainbow Sherbert Throw Pillow! Too cute!! :) (July 2, 2013)

Check out this cute adorable pillow from Twinkie Chan!

This is so cute and clever!  The way you would make this a larger (longer) pillow is to add more "scoops" of ice cream!

This is sooooo cute!!   :)

Confira este travesseiro cute adorável de Twinkie Chan!

Isso é tão bonito e inteligente! A forma como você faria isso um travesseiro maior (mais longo) é adicionar mais "conchas" de sorvete!

Isso é tão bonito!!!! :)

DOILY_Between Meal Centerpiece 1917

February 17, 2013;

TADA!  I am finished the Between Meal Centerpiece doily!  Here are the latest pics.  Thanks for stopping by my blog!  :)

I could not help showing off at this point!

February 14, 2013:

More progress has been made on my Between Meal Centerpiece.  I feel like I am in the home stretch and can see the light at the end of the tunnel!  It has been years since I made a doily like this, except back 2007 when I made one of this pattern on a threaddicts yahoogroups CAL (crochet-a-long).

In this picture, I have nearly completed round 55 and there are 60 rounds in this pattern.

February 7, 2013:

Got some more done on the Between Meal Centerpiece doily at lunch today.  I am on round 41 right now and it is coming along nicely.  Here is the latest "progress" picture:

February 2, 2013:

Progress update...I am on Round 34.  I love thus pattern!  Here is a picture of it.

January 31, 2013:

Hi everyone and good morning!

I have started another one of these beautiful doilies called, "Between-Meal Centerpiece.". Back in 2007 I made one of these in white size 10 crochet thread, but I must have given it away since I could not find it to photograph it. So....this gives me an excuse to make another one.

I am just getting started here; got a long way to go!

I have not decided if I am going to trim it in another color or not; I will just see what mood I am in when I get to the outer rounds. The previous one was white and trimmed in light pink on last two rounds.

As of this morning, I am on round 18. My favorite round to make is 49. It is the longest-seeming round but I like the overall look of this round in this doily.

I am using that "nasty rough" Red Heart size 10 crochet cotton thread and a Hamanaka crochet hook size 2/0. This is NOT good thread..give me my Aunt Lydia's thread any day!!

This pattern was originally published in a 1917 publication called, Corticelli Lessons In Crochet. In 1987, it was republished in the magazine (unfortunately out of print now), Old-Time Crochet.

I got involved with it on the Threadaddicts mailng list over at Yahoogroups. In 2007, this was their first crochet-a-long project. Unfortunately the pattern for this doily is no longer om the internet, but I still have my pdf copy at my 4Shared site at:

http://www.4shared.com/office/T-gMZtGl/Between_Meal_Centerpiece_1917_.html

For the Corticelli book, visit antiquepatternlibrary.org and click the Catalogue link at the top of the page. :)

Have fun if you decide to try this pattern!

Circular Bolero Jacket I made from itty-bittys.blogspot.com; I used 9 skeins Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (1.75 oz, 50 g) & size J Clover hook, Jan 7, 2012 -1.jpg

This was a fun pattern to make. It's the first time I've made any type of clothing item.

On my first attempt, I was thinking that I needed to enlarge the pattern somewhat. I completed the bolero and it was so wide across the back that it didn't fit correctly. The proportions were all wrong.

Toooooo big (what was I thinking???).  I eventually ripped this out and started over on the finished item (pictures below):

I then pulled the whole thing out and remade it following the directions exactly this time. It came out like the picture and it fits pretty well now.

Starting over; 2nd attempt .....

If you decide to try this one, it's easy to make and can be found at link removed!!). Look for the pattern, Round Vest (no sewing) (this is a Google Chrome web browser translation).
Here is the direct link:
**Update:  I removed this link as it is now a porn website.  My jaw just about dropped open.  Apologies to everyone who clicked this link as I have no idea how long this offensive link has been going on.

For the corrected version, I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn (1.75 oz skeins / 50 g), and my size J Clover crochet hook.  Pictured is an "I" hook, but I ended up using my "J" hook:

Here are some more pics:

Oh Happy Day!!!!  I think I'm "hooked" on these circular boleros, jackets, vests ... whatever they are!  :)  :)

Good luck. :)    :)

Alligator Stitch / Crocodile Stitch Neck Warmer!!

(anyone know how to rotate a photo in the blogger editor?  I haven't been able to figure it out without re-saving it on the hard disk and going that route).

I recently purchased a pattern for a Crocodile Stitch Neck Warmer from Bonita on ravelry.com
It is a superb pattern and very well written, plus it has some great photos to help you make this pattern.

She also has a facebook group page at: http://www.facebook.com/BonitaPatterns.

The materials I'm using are 3 strands of size 10 thread held together and a size G Clover crochet hook.   I wound strands of thread into a ball before I started this neck warmer, so that I wouldn't have to constantly fiddle with having 3 separate balls of thread to contend with plus, it takes up less space when you can discard those cardboard cylinders inside the balls of thread.

I started on this Saturday, December 31, 2011 and I am continuing to work on this Sunday, January 1, 2012, while watching my New Orleans Saints play the Carolina Panthers.  What a game with records broken in the NFL during this game!!

  A Colston touchdown catch!

Ivory has "wheels" and is quick!

Dunk Dat Ball, Graham! Amazing athlete who only played 1 year of college football - he was a college basketball player for the most part.

Here are some "progress" photos.  These were taken Saturday, December 31, 2011:

Note:  if anyone knows how to rotate these around in the blogger.com editor, I would appreciate the info.

You can see that I have 10 rows completed.  The "scale" row is the even-numbered row.  If you flip your piece over, you can see the V-Stitch rows (odd-numbered rows), upon which the scales are crocheted.

Hope everyone had a wonder first day of the new year, 2012!     :)
