Curly Qs Doily...FINISHED IT!

February 21, 2013:

Well, I must have been bitten by the "doily-making bug" lately as I am working on another doily.   I have not made a doily in many years, but I always had a fond place in my heart for working on these.

This one is called "Curly Qs" from the book, Favorite Throws & Table Toppers to Crochet.  (Please ignore the fingerprints on my Blackberry Playbook--they are somewhat visible in the picture).

Do you remember those twisty crochet ponytail ties from the late 1970's which moms would crochet out of yarn, for their little girl's hair? These twisty things are in this doily and I am looking forward to making that part.

I am on round 4 in this picture:

Stay tuned--more progress pics to follow. :)

February 24, 2013:
As promised, more pictures.  This doily is somewhat challenging (but not too difficult), and is a lot of fun to make.  I did have some problems on Round 10 which resulted in having to rip and re-crochet this round about 3 or 4 times.   I had to "frog it" .... you know......rip it, rip it, rip it!

Part of this next series of photos are of Round 10 and the Curly Q and the picture tutorial of how these curly Qs are made are placed on this round:

Here is a video I made with the help of my two sons, John and Patrick (my microphone man and my camera man for this).  This video doesn't necessarily show you "how" to make the individual stitches such as chains, double crochets and single crochet stitches.  Rather, it shows you how this curly q stitch is formed.

March 5, 2013:

I am almost finished!!  Yipee!!  There are 28 rounds in this doily and tonight, I am on round 27.

These photos are of rounds 21, 22 and 25; round 22 is the last round of curly Qs:

DOILY_Between Meal Centerpiece 1917

February 17, 2013;

TADA!  I am finished the Between Meal Centerpiece doily!  Here are the latest pics.  Thanks for stopping by my blog!  :)

I could not help showing off at this point!

February 14, 2013:

More progress has been made on my Between Meal Centerpiece.  I feel like I am in the home stretch and can see the light at the end of the tunnel!  It has been years since I made a doily like this, except back 2007 when I made one of this pattern on a threaddicts yahoogroups CAL (crochet-a-long).

In this picture, I have nearly completed round 55 and there are 60 rounds in this pattern.

February 7, 2013:

Got some more done on the Between Meal Centerpiece doily at lunch today.  I am on round 41 right now and it is coming along nicely.  Here is the latest "progress" picture:

Progress update...I am on Round 34.  I love thus pattern!  Here is a picture of it.

January 31, 2013:

Hi everyone and good morning!

I have started another one of these beautiful doilies called, "Between-Meal Centerpiece.". Back in 2007 I made one of these in white size 10 crochet thread, but I must have given it away since I could not find it to photograph it. So....this gives me an excuse to make another one.

I am just getting started here; got a long way to go!

I have not decided if I am going to trim it in another color or not; I will just see what mood I am in when I get to the outer rounds. The previous one was white and trimmed in light pink on last two rounds.

As of this morning, I am on round 18. My favorite round to make is 49. It is the longest-seeming round but I like the overall look of this round in this doily.

I am using that "nasty rough" Red Heart size 10 crochet cotton thread and a Hamanaka crochet hook size 2/0. This is NOT good thread..give me my Aunt Lydia's thread any day!!

This pattern was originally published in a 1917 publication called, Corticelli Lessons In Crochet. In 1987, it was republished in the magazine (unfortunately out of print now), Old-Time Crochet.

I got involved with it on the Threadaddicts mailng list over at Yahoogroups. In 2007, this was their first crochet-a-long project. Unfortunately the pattern for this doily is no longer om the internet, but I still have my pdf copy at my 4Shared site at:

http://www.4shared.com/office/T-gMZtGl/Between_Meal_Centerpiece_1917_.html

For the Corticelli book, visit antiquepatternlibrary.org and click the Catalogue link at the top of the page. :)

Have fun if you decide to try this pattern!
