Box of Goodies Arrived Today!

March 1, 2012: Box of Goodies Arrived Today! I had bought some more yarn from a seller on Ebay and these are terrific!

I carefully opened the box and ..... Wow!



This cone is a light lavender or purple shades and white, an ombre-colored yarn:



This is the label on the inside of the cone:



It weighed in just under 8 pounds on this cone, WOW!



On what size this thread/yarn is, it looks like a size 8 cotton thread (similar to 2 strands of size 10 held together):




The pink and white ombre skeins are center-pull skeins or balls and about a size 8 cotton thread (sort of like 2 strands of size 10 held together):



All of these 5 skeins weighed in just at 3 1/2 pounds:



I really LOVE this next cone which is a purple cotton yarn (size 10) with a nylon gold metallic filament. It's lovely and the pictures don't do it justice:

I absolutely love the purple thread with the gold filament and the pink ombre and the light purple ombre are wonderful!

Needless to say, I love these yarns and I HAD to pose with them!




I do not know what I'm going to make with these but I am thinking, "garments!"  I have some ideas in mind, some of them ideas on my own designs which I have yet to write down and make.....just my brain thinking in my "downtime."

New Blue & Green Yarn (what to make with it?) & Pattern Find (search is over!)

Hi everyone!


I did something wild and crazy the other day and bought a huge cone size 4/2 cotton yarn described as having 9.53 to 9.91 POUNDS of yarn on the cone.

I have very large hands for a girl and this is what the cone looks like from the side view:

And, here is how small / large the yarn size is (about the size of 2 strands of size 10 thread held together)

I wanted to see how accurate a description the item was given on the weight and so I placed it on our scale.  This is one of those doctor's office scales which can weigh from 1 to 500 pounds.  It's a SECA brand scale - an older model but it works just fine.


Well, I set the sliders to zero to make sure that everything was calibrated correctly and then put the cone on the scale.  This weighed in at 10 pounds .... WOW!

 

   

Needless to say, I am going to have fun with this yarn.  I already have a design in mind which I bought yesterday. I couldn't believe my luck as I have been looking for this pattern for about a year now and this lady had one copy to sell:

Finding this pattern sure made my Mardi Gras for me!  I'm thinking that this blue and green yarn might work well for this.  I don't know if I will use 1 or 2 strands to make this - just something that I need to play with on my gauge.

My only irritation so far with this pattern is how the gauge is written, which isn't much (and this was typical of crochet patterns back in the 1970's).  It says: 1 pat = 1"; 2 rows = 1"

I understand the "2 rows" being 1 inch  as these seem to be primarily dc rows. It's the "1 pat," as if I've already made the garment and I know what part of the pattern row they are talking about.

I'll have to fiddle around with this but I have to get some more projects finished first.  :)  Have a great day and thanks for visiting my blog!   :)  :)

Alligator Stitch / Crocodile Stitch Neck Warmer!!

(anyone know how to rotate a photo in the blogger editor?  I haven't been able to figure it out without re-saving it on the hard disk and going that route).

I recently purchased a pattern for a Crocodile Stitch Neck Warmer from Bonita on ravelry.com

It is a superb pattern and very well written, plus it has some great photos to help you make this pattern.

The materials I'm using are 3 strands of size 10 thread held together and a size G Clover crochet hook.   I wound strands of thread into a ball before I started this neck warmer, so that I wouldn't have to constantly fiddle with having 3 separate balls of thread to contend with plus, it takes up less space when you can discard those cardboard cylinders inside the balls of thread.

I started on this Saturday, December 31, 2011 and I am continuing to work on this Sunday, January 1, 2012, while watching my New Orleans Saints play the Carolina Panthers.  What a game with records broken in the NFL during this game!!

You can see that I have 10 rows completed.  The "scale" row is the even-numbered row.  If you flip your piece over, you can see the V-Stitch rows (odd-numbered rows), upon which the scales are crocheted.
